How long have you been photographing?

“For 50 years, starting with a Kodak Brownie.”

What inspired you to get into photography?

“At first, I was fascinated by the challenge of trying to capture Nature’s beauty. I still am.

Later, as a photojournalist/student at SFU, I liked the sense of being among the action, but not necessarily of it. ”

Describe your photography in three words.

“Concentrating, concentration, concentrated.”

What is your favorite lens?

“Nikkor 24-70 f 2.8

What is your favorite camera?

“Nikon D300

Where do you get your inspiration from?

“I read widely: photo books & magazines, of course, but more recently books of paintings.

Could you describe the process or idea behind your favorite picture that was in one of our shows? (above)

“Glowing Trees”

“I am fascinated by the structure of trees, without their foliage. They show their bones, as it were. We see the spaces between the branches and can marvel at the design. In certain kinds of light, especially, their strong graphic form gives them an evocative power – as graphic form, symbolic icon, and model for the beauty of nature.”
