Interview: Ryan Broesky

Ryan Broesky

How long have you been photographing?

“For about 10 years but I’ve really taken it seriously as a career in the last 5.”

What inspired you to get into photography?

“Without a doubt traveling. My first time spent in Europe. There was so much to see and so many things that I wished my family and friends could see with me, I had to take pictures to show them. Many many pictures lol.”

Describe your photography in three words.

“Composition, clean, stories”

What is your favorite lens?

“Canon 17-40 and Canon 70-200″

What is your favorite camera?

“Right now I’m loving the 5D Mark ll. (Only wish it shot 60 fps video!)”

Where do you get your inspiration from?

“Pretty much everywhere. Nature, architecture, other photographers.”

Could you describe the process or idea behind your favorite picture that was in one of our shows?(above)

“Some luck and a lot of being in the right mind space. I had been traveling around Europe for about a month so I starting to get in a pretty relaxed groove. I was on my way home from the metro station in Amsterdam just at the onset of sunset. Everyone was rushing home from their day at work. So I stopped and decided to step out of the way of all the rush. That’s when I saw this perfect reflection of the buildings on one of Amsterdam’s beautiful canals. Slow down, look around, you’d be amazed at what you’ll see.”
